Volunteers Needed to Serve on the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund, Board of Trustees

The Board of Selectmen is seeking individuals interested in affordable housing issues to serve on the Board of Trustees for the newly formed Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The purpose of the Trust is to provide for the creation and preservation of affordable housing in Dennis for the benefit of low and moderate income households. Please come in and fill out a “green card” at the Dennis Town Hall Monday – Friday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM or download the volunteer application from the town’s website here.

Please attach your resume, if available, to your application. Duties of the Trustees will include, but are not limited to, accepting and receiving various affordable housing funds and grants, contracting for professional services such as financial consultants, agents, and auditors and making recommendations to the Board of Selectmen on the disbursement of funds for affordable housing.  Please call 508-760-6164 if you have any questions.

Meet your Selectmen

Sheryl A McMahon

838 Old Bass River Rd, Dennis MA 02638, 508-385-8077

Sheryl McMahon has lived on Cape Cod all her life. She was raised in Sandwich and attended Henry T. Wing School for 12 years. Following high school she attended Worcester State College where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. There being a surplus of entry level teachers and not enough positions, Sheryl accepted a bookkeeping job with a small company. In 1982, she began her career in the public sector as an administrative assistant in the Barnstable County Treasurer’s Office.

In 1987, she was appointed Treasurer of the Dennis Water District. A position she still holds today. During her tenure as a District Treasurer she has served as a board member to the Barnstable County Retirement Association and the Cape Cod Municipal Health Group as well as President of the Cape & Islands Treasurers and Collectors Association and the Massachusetts Collector’s and Treasurer’s Association. She has been a certified Massachusetts Municipal Treasurer since 1992 and received her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Suffolk University in 1994.

In December of 1998, Sheryl and her husband moved to their new home on Old Bass River Road. She immediately volunteered as a member of the Land Acquisition Committee. After several years on this committee, Sheryl was appointed to the Finance Committee where she served until her election as Selectman in May of 2004.

Sheryl is currently liaison to the Capital Outlay Committee, Dennis Yarmouth Regional School Committee and is the Board’s representative to the Community Preservation Committee.

In her free time, Sheryl enjoys long walks with her dog George, gardening and collecting cookie jars.

The most expedient and preferred way to reach Sheryl is by email at samcmahon (at)comcast.net or by voice mail 508-364-9995 (cell) or 508-385-8077 (home).   top
