Upcoming Elections are as follows:

On Election Day the Polls will be open from 7:00 am – 8:00 pm

The five voting precincts in the Town of Dennis are:

  •  Precinct 1: Carleton Hall, Old Bass River Road, Dennis

  •  Precinct 2: Dennis Senior Center, Route 134, East Dennis

  •  Precinct 3: Dennis Public Library, 5 Hall Street, Dennisport

  •  Precinct 4: West Dennis Graded School, School Street, West Dennis

  • Precinct 5: Dennis Police Station, 90 Bob Crowell Rd, South Dennis

The Town Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for voter registration.  In anticipation of the above noted elections, the Clerk’s Office will also be open from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm on:  Wednesday, August 25, 2010 and Wednesday, October 13, 2010.  Residents who are not already registered to vote are encouraged to register by the above date in order to participate in the upcoming Elections.
Absentee Ballot Applications are available at the Town Clerk’s Office for the State Primary on September 14, 2010.  Absentee Voting is for voters who will not be in the Town of Dennis on election Day.  Absentee Applications can be filed up until noon time on Monday, September 13th.  If you have any questions, please call the Town Clerk’s Office at (508) 760-6112.
 

Records

Records maintained by the Town Clerk include birth, marriage and death records, hunting, fishing and dog licenses, business certificates (DBA), federal and state tax liens, issues Auctioneer Licenses and Raffle Permits, files decisions of the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and historic district Commissions.

Birth Certificates
  • Certified copies of birth certificates may be obtained from the Town Clerk if the child was born in Dennis or the parents were living in Dennis at the time of birth.

  • A certified copy of a birth record can be obtained in person during business hours as indicated.

  • Mail requests will be processed and mailed out the same day. Requests should include the full birth name and date of birth. Personal checks or money orders should be made out to the Town of Dennis.

  • The fee for the certified copy of a birth certificate is $10.00.

  • There are exceptions in cases of impounded records (parents were not married at the time of birth). Please call the office for special instructions in obtaining these records.

Marriage Licenses
  • The bride and groom must both be present to file their marriage intentions. Persons under 18 years of age must obtain parental and court permission with the court age waiver filed with this office. This is a state marriage license that may be obtained in any city or town in Massachusetts as long as the marriage takes place in Massachusetts.

  • There is a mandatory three (3) day waiting period not including the day of filing. If you wish to waive the three (3) day waiting period, a court waiver is necessary.

  • As of January 28, 2005, pre-martial blood tests are no longer required in Massachusetts.

  • The marriage license is valid for and must be used within sixty (60) days of the date the marriage intentions were filed. If the license is not used, it becomes void and it will be necessary to begin the entire process again.

  • Filing fee is $25.00.

Marriage Certificates
  • Certified copies of marriage certificates may be obtained from the Town Clerk if the couple filed their marriage intentions in Dennis.

Death Certificates
  • Certified copies of death certificates may be obtained from the Town Clerk if the death occurred in Dennis, or if the deceased resided in Dennis at the time of death and died within the State of Massachusetts.

  • Death certificates may be obtained in person or by mail. Make checks payable to the Town of Dennis.

  • Fee for a certified copy of a death record is $10.00.

Dog Licenses

Licenses are issued in the Town Clerk's office and run from January 1st to December 31st of each year. If a dog is not licensed by the end of January, as of February 1st a $5.00 late fee is assessed. Fees for licenses are as follows:

Proof of rabies expiration date and whether the dog has been spayed or neutered must be presented at the time of license issue. To avoid a $5.00 Late Fee, please license your dog by January 31st.

Licenses may be downloaded here or obtained by mail. Send a request to the Town Clerk's Office, include an updated rabies certificate and a certificate of spaying or neutering along with a check payable to the Town of Dennis. A stamped, self-addressed envelope is required.

How to File a Business Certificate AKA “DBA”

Instructions for Filing a Business Certificate in Dennis, MA
Required by Massachusetts General Law Ch. 110, § 5

  1. Before applying for a Business Certificate, a pre-application must be signed by the Building Commissioner or his designee for the Town of Dennis.  The Building Department is located at 465 Main Street, Dennisport, MA  02639.  The Building Commissioner is available 8:30 to 9:30 am and 3:30 to 4:30 pm daily.
     

  2. Once the pre-application is signed, bring that form to the Town Clerk’s Office located at 485 Main Street, South Dennis, MA  02660.  Office hours are Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
     

  3. DBA filing fee is $30.00.  The Business Certificate is valid for 4 years.  A notice will be sent to the mailing address on file when it is time for renewal.  Checks should be made payable to the Town of Dennis.
     

  4. Any change in a Business Certificate must be recorded in the Town Clerk’s Office with the proper form.  Forms may be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office.

  5. Corporations must file a Business Certificate if doing business under a name other than its corporate name.
     

  6. It is the responsibility of the business owner(s) to check with the Corporations Office in Boston to verify that you are not using a corporate name that is protected in the State of Massachusetts.
