The Department of Public Works is responsible for removing snow from most Roadways within the Town of Dennis. We also plow municipal buildings, parking lots and lastly Town cemeteries. When the snow starts to fall: The crews begin to sand/salt their assigned routes. Priority is given to the main roadways. After these are completed secondary roads are prioritized. If the snow accumulates over two inches we begin plowing operations. If the snow continues to accumulate: Once two to four inches of snow has accumulated, plowing operations begin. Our main responsibility is to keep the main roads open. If the snow has accumulated an additional two to four inches after the routes are completed the crews start their routes again. When the storm has ended: Once the storm has ended the operators begin to widen out the roads by pushing back the accumulated snow and clearing the intersections. Please be aware that the drivers are not being sadistic when the snow goes into your driveway, they are preparing for the next storm. The intention is to make the roadway as clear as possible. Finally: Please be patient. Snow removal is a very arduous and time consuming task. Drivers do not get a shift change, they work around the clock until the Town is complete. We strive to complete the Town as soon as we possibly can. Don't call two hours into the storm some routes take 6-7 hours to plow. We occasionally will miss plowing a road, so please give us a call at 1-508-760-6220 and either leave a message or let us know, we will be out as soon as possible (if the snow event is prolonged please expect delays). If brush or limbs have overgrown into the roadway, it may cause further delays. We appreciate all the support from the community and will continue to provide you with the services that help to make the Town of Dennis a great place to live, work and visit. |
