STATE BUILDING CODE NOW REQUIRES ANNUAL INSPECTIONS FOR SHORT-TERM RENTAL PROPERTIES

As of October 11, 2024, Massachusetts has adopted the 10th edition of the State Building Code. This update mandates annual inspections for short-term rental properties, as defined in 780 CMR Chapter 2, and Residential Use Groups as determined under Section 310 of the BBRS 10th edition 780 CMR building code.

The Town of Dennis has improved its inspection scheduling process to better accommodate these new requirements and integrate them with existing building permit inspections. Residents can request morning or afternoon inspections through the application portal, and inspectors will try to meet specific time requests when possible. The Town is committed to conducting all inspections as efficiently as possible.

PLOVER UPDATE

Plover update Crowes Pasture had 5 successful nests this year. A total of 15 chicks have fledged so far. We are still awaiting one brood of chicks to fly. This brood is keeping the east access closed to the aquaculture grant holders. We anticipate this to re-open mid-August. Once the birds fly, we will also be able to reopen the beach to dogs. The recreational ORV access was reopened on August 1st .

South Village Landing had one successful nest with 3 chicks fledged this year. Chapin Beach had a total of 3 successful nests this year with 8 chicks fledged.

Cold Storage Beach had one successful nest this year with 4 chicks fledged.

West Dennis Beach had 4 successful nests this year. A total of 4 chicks have fledged so far. We are still awaiting two broods of chicks to fly. These broods are requiring that the barricades and silt fencing remain in place. The silt fencing was required to be installed, last minute on July 16th, along the entire length of the bulkhead in order to protect the broods from entering the parking lot area. We anticipate these broods to fly mid-August

Crowes Pasture Recreational ORV Access is OPEN.

All vehicles will be inspected for equipment. Please have your equipment easily accessible and tires aired down beforehand in order to allow the line to move efficiently.

Please check our website for the most up to date version of the access calendar with opening/closing times. ORV users are responsible for knowing what times the flats access is open. We recommend you keep a copy of the Access Calendar with you.

Access times/dates are subject to change depending on tidal issues, inclement weather, and/or lack of staffing. Please check the calendar before visiting the beach.

Vehicles leaving the flats late will have their stickers revoked per the regulations.
